Moss has many applications for houseplants, gardening, crafts and floristry.

We primarily use this product in soil mixes for epiphytes, aroids and carnivorous plants.

Epiphytes naturally grow on the trunks of larger trees, and benefit from the moisture and nutrient wicking properties of the moss – add a handful to their potting soil and watch them thrive.

Aroids such as Monstera which produce aerial roots can really benefit from a moss pole support. You can buy kits online, but we tend to make our own using chicken wire. The benefit over standard coir support poles is that real moss holds moisture and nutrients – your aroids’ aerial roots will grow into the moss and put out a whole secondary root system which helps reduce the need for watering and aids the plant in circulating nutrients.

Carnivorous plants prefer an acidic, low-nutrient substrate, and some studies suggest using sphagnum moss alone is ideal – helping to recreate the bog conditions where these plants thrive in the wild.

Note that moss is a product sustainably harvested from the wild and may unavoidably include some leaf and twig matter as well as occasional insect stowaways.
